I was fortunate to be able to attend the Nonprofit Storytelling Conference in October. Originally scheduled as a three-day event in Chicago, Illinois, it was re-imagined as a two-day virtual conference with bonus pre-conference sessions scheduled over the two weeks leading up to the main event.

Keeping up with taking notes and tweeting takeaways was a challenge, but the best kind of challenge to have. Every speaker had something important to share, and every session left me inspired and generated new ideas for me to bring back to the office.

Here are my top takeaways from the conference:

There is Generosity Everywhere — Perhaps Especially During a Crisis

When the news cycle is full of stories about high unemployment and an unfavorable stock market, it is easy to assume that people just won’t be giving as much to nonprofits. However, that’s not what the data have to say. Multiple speakers throughout the conference shared statistics on how giving to nonprofits is up in 2020 compared to 2019.
